Training: 72 hours total from accredited Missouri real estate schools: a 48-hour salesperson pre-exam course, finished on or before the exam date, and the 24-hour Missouri Real Estate Practice (MREP) course, taken after the 48-hour course and before you apply. Licensed attorneys are exempt from the education but must pass both portions of the exam.

What other sites get wrong about Missouri

Myth: Missouri charges a $50 application fee plus a $40 license issuance fee.

Fact: MREC's current application lists a single nonrefundable $100 salesperson fee. source

After you're licensed

Renewal: Salesperson licenses renew every 2 years by September 30 (paper or online in MOPRO), for $65. You need 12 hours of approved CE in the 2-year period, including at least 3 hours of core. For the renewal into the October 1, 2026 – September 30, 2028 license period (CE taken October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2026), the required core was Fair Housing; check MREC for the core topic for the September 30, 2028 renewal. If you miss the CE deadline, you must complete the 24-hour MREP course before you can renew.

Good to know in Missouri

Sponsoring broker: Your sponsoring broker must complete and sign the broker section of your license application.

6-month deadline: Submit a complete application within 6 months of finishing the 48-hour pre-exam course, or you must start over.

Licensed in another state: If you hold a current, active salesperson license elsewhere, you skip the 48-hour course. You pass only the state portion, complete the 24-hour MREP course, and apply within 6 months with a license history certification dated within 3 months.
