Training and exam

Training: A 99-hour Delaware salesperson pre-licensing course covering real estate principles and practices and Delaware real estate law, from a Commission-approved provider. Apply within 12 months of finishing it, or you must show prorated continuing education. After licensure, new salespersons (except those licensed by reciprocity) must complete 12 hours of new-licensee modules within 90 days: professional standards, agreement of sale and buyer representation, real estate documents and seller representation, and real estate professionalism (3 hours each).

Exam: Pearson VUE. General portion: 80 scored items. Delaware state portion: 40 scored items plus 10 unscored pretest items. You have 4 hours. Passing scaled score is 70. Fee: $88. If you fail, retake only the failed portion, within one year of finishing the course; you get no more than 3 attempts before you must retake the course. Wait 24 hours before rebooking.

After you're licensed

Renewal: Licenses renew every two years and expire April 30 of each even-numbered year. The renewal fee is set at renewal time; late renewal (allowed for up to 30 days) adds a 50% late fee. Renewal requires 21 hours of CE across 7 three-hour modules: agency and fair housing, professional standards, real estate documents, office management, legislative issues, practices of real estate, and an elective. CE is prorated for new licensees: none under 6 months, 6 hours at 6-12 months, 12 hours at 12-18 months, 18 hours at 18-24 months. The 12-hour new-salesperson modules are extra.
