Training and exam

Training: Wyoming does not require a formal training program or set training hours. Uncertified applicants may hold a Technician-in-Training permit and train on the job at a sponsoring pharmacy while preparing for national certification.

Exam: All technician applicants must be currently certified by PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT). Technicians-in-training must become certified and licensed within two years of the permit's issue date. No separate state exam.

What other sites get wrong about Wyoming

Myth: Wyoming technician licenses renew every year for $35.

Fact: The Board's fee schedule lists a $50 annual renewal fee; $35 is the late fee added after December 31. source

Once you're registered

Renewal: Technician licenses renew every year on or before December 31 for $50; renewals postmarked or filed after December 31 owe a $35 late fee. If you miss the deadline, the license expires 10 days after the Board's certified-mail notice, and can be restored up to March 31. You must complete and report 10 hours of ACPE-approved CPE from the previous license period through NABP CPE Monitor, with no carryover; your first renewal is exempt. Technicians who give immunizations need at least 1 of those hours on immunizations.

Good to know in Wyoming

Technician-in-Training permit: The permit is valid for two years from issue and cannot be renewed. You may work only at your sponsoring pharmacy. If your sponsoring pharmacy changes, immediately submit a Pharmacy Sponsor Transfer Form (no fee for the reissued permit).

Mail-in applications only: New applications must be mailed with a check or money order; faxed or emailed applications and cash are not accepted. Incomplete applications are returned.

Inactive license: A technician not practicing in Wyoming can request inactive status at renewal and is exempt from CPE while inactive. To reactivate, complete the CPE for each inactive year, up to five years.

Reinstating an expired license: To reinstate, send a letter, pay annual and late fees for each expired year (up to five), show current PTCB or ExCPT certification, and prove CE for those years.
