Training and exam

Training: Nebraska sets no separate training-hour requirement for registration. Certification within one year can come from a national exam or from a Board-approved Nebraska state certification program (UNMC College of Pharmacy, Southeast Community College, Nebraska Methodist College or Quality Career Pathways, per the DHHS list).

Exam: Technicians employed by a licensed health care facility, which includes pharmacies under Neb. Rev. Stat. 71-413, must be certified by a Board-approved state or national certifying body within one year of registering and must keep it current (Neb. Rev. Stat. 38-2890). Approved options include PTCB, NHA (ExCPT) and listed Nebraska state certification programs. No state-run exam.

How long it takes

DHHS says a licensure decision takes 8-10 weeks from receipt of a completed application. If you prove lawful presence with documents other than U.S. citizenship papers, DHHS verifies them through the Department of Homeland Security, which may add 4-6 weeks.

Once you're registered

Renewal: Registrations renew January 1 of each odd-numbered year (current cycle ends 01/01/2027) for $25, online at nebraska.mylicense.com or by mail; the renewal must be postmarked by the expiration date. If it expires you must reinstate before working, and practicing without an active registration brings a $10-per-day administrative penalty up to $1,000. You must keep your Board-approved certification current while registered. Inactive status is free.
