This is ASVAB math knowledge, another of the four AFQT. Where arithmetic reasoning is word problems, math knowledge is straight algebra and geometry, equations, exponents and shapes. 12 questions, let's go. Math knowledge rewards knowing the rules cold, solving for X, exponent rules, area and volume formulas, the Pythagorean theorem.
Memorize the handful of formulas and these go fast. Number one, solve for X, three X minus seven equals eight. Add seven to both sides, three X is 15. Divide by three, X is five.
Number two, two plus three times four. Multiply before you add, three times four is 12, plus two is 14. Number three, a right triangle has legs of six and eight. The hypotenuse, six squared plus eight squared is 100.
The square root of 100 is 10. Number four, factor X squared minus five X plus six. Find two numbers that multiply to six and add to negative five, negative two and negative three. So it factors to X minus two times X minus three.
Number five, two to the fifth power. Two times two times two times two is 32. Number six, the area of a circle with radius five. Area is pi times r squared, so pi times five squared, 25 pi.
Number seven, solve the inequality two X plus three is greater than 11. Subtract three, two X is greater than eight. Divide by two, X is greater than four. Number eight, simplify X cubed quantity squared.
To raise a power to a power, multiply the exponents. Three times two is six, so X to the sixth. Number nine, the sum of the interior angles of a pentagon. Use n minus two times 180.
Three times 180 is 540 degrees. Number 10, the square root of 144 is 12 because 12 times 12 is 144. Number 11, the slope of the line through the points one comma two and three comma eight. Slope is rise over run, eight minus two is six over three minus one is two, six over two is three.
Number 12, five factorial. Five times four times three times two times one is 120. Recap, math knowledge is formula recall. Exponent rules, area and volume, the Pythagorean theorem and order of operations.
Lock in the formulas and these are quick points. That's 12 for the full math knowledge set and every other ASVAB, practicefreeit.com. Go get it.
