This is ASVAB General Science. It isn't part of your AFQT, but your General Science score helps decide which military jobs you qualify for. It covers biology, earth and space, chemistry and physics. Here are 12 questions, see how many you get.
General Science is broad but shallow. It rewards recognizing basic facts, not deep math. So review the fundamentals across all four areas and don't overthink it. Your first solid answer is usually right.
Number one, which organelle is the powerhouse of the cell? The mitochondrion, it breaks down glucose to make ATP, the molecule cells use for energy. Number two, which blood cell fights infection? White blood cells, the defenders of your immune system.
Red cells carry oxygen and platelets help blood clot. Number three, which gas do plants release during photosynthesis? Oxygen, they take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. Number four, the largest planet in our solar system?
Jupiter, a gas giant larger than all the other planets combined. Number five, what causes the daily cycle of day and night? Earth rotating on its axis, one full spin about every 24 hours. Number six, the hardest naturally occurring mineral, a 10 on the scale, diamond.
Number seven, which subatomic particle carries a negative charge? The electron, protons are positive and neutrons are neutral. Number eight, a solution with a pH below seven is what? Acidic, above seven is basic and exactly seven is neutral.
Number nine, the chemical formula for water? H2O, two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen. Number 10, which of Newton's laws says an object in motion stays in motion unless a force acts on it? The first law, the law of inertia.
Number 11, the energy an object has because of its motion is called kinetic energy. Stored, ready to use energy is potential energy. Number 12, why do you see lightning before you hear the thunder? Because light travels much faster than sound.
Quick recap, general science spans life science, earth and space, chemistry and physics. You don't need to go deep, just know the core facts in each area and answer with confidence. That's 12 for the full general science set in every other as VAB, practicefreeit.com. Good luck out there.
