The MSSC logistics credentials are the national, industry-defined proof of competence for front-line supply chain work — the jobs in warehouses, distribution centers and fulfillment centers that move a product from a receiving dock to a customer. The Certified Logistics Associate covers the foundational knowledge every logistics worker needs, and the Certified Logistics Technician builds the mid-level technical skills on top of it. Neither requires a degree, and both are defined against national standards rather than any one employer's operation, so the credential travels with you between sites. These practice questions follow the published key work activities of both assessments: the global supply chain and the logistics environment, safety and hazardous materials, material handling equipment, quality control and measurement, workplace communication and teamwork, computer and information systems, receiving and storage and inventory control, and order processing through packaging, shipping and transportation. How to prepare for the CLA and CLT assessments
Begin by getting the shape of the supply chain clear in your head, because almost every other question assumes it. You need to be able to say what a supplier, a manufacturer, a distribution center, a fulfillment center, a cross-dock, a carrier and a third-party logistics provider each do, and how goods and information move in opposite directions between them — product flowing downstream toward the customer while orders, forecasts and status flow back upstream. Get comfortable with the difference between a warehouse that stores and a distribution center that flows product through, since that distinction explains why one site is laid out for density and another for speed. Learn the documents as a set rather than one at a time: a purchase order is what the buyer commits to, a bill of lading is what the carrier accepts, a packing list is what is physically in the shipment, and an advance ship notice is the electronic heads-up that arrives before the truck. Most receiving questions are really questions about which of those documents disagrees with the others.
Treat safety as reasoning rather than as a list of rules to memorize, because that is how these assessments ask about it. The hierarchy of controls is the single most useful idea to internalize: eliminating a hazard beats engineering a guard against it, engineering beats a written procedure, and personal protective equipment comes last because it protects one person and only while it is worn correctly. Once that ordering is second nature, a large family of questions answers itself. The hazards that actually injure logistics workers are worth knowing by name — pedestrian and powered equipment interactions, dock edges and trailer creep, unstable stacks and damaged rack uprights, manual lifting, and pinch points on conveyors and dock equipment — and for each one the tested point is usually what a worker does on noticing it. For hazardous materials, remember that the credential tests recognition and escalation rather than handling: you are expected to recognize from markings, labels and shipping papers that a shipment is hazardous, to know that the safety data sheet is where the answers live, and to know that offering and handling those materials requires specific training you must not exceed. Reporting a near miss and taking damaged equipment out of service are both things the standards care about far more than a candidate expects.
The measurement and calculation material is the part candidates most often underestimate, and it is also the part that rewards practice most directly, because the answers are either right or wrong and there is no partial credit for recognizing the topic. You should be able to convert within the US customary system and within the metric system, and between the two in both directions, without hesitating. Beyond conversion, practice the arithmetic the job actually uses: cases per layer times layers per pallet to get cases per pallet, and then units per pallet; total shipment weight from a case weight and a case count; the difference between gross, tare and net weight on a scale; and volume or cube for a carton or a storage location. Understand why a bulky, light shipment can be charged on the space it occupies rather than what it weighs, since that idea connects the measurement topic to the packaging and shipping one and explains why an oversized carton costs a company twice. Work these with a calculator and write the steps down. The quality half of the same topic is more conceptual: know what you check on an inbound shipment, what shortage, overage, concealed damage and a wrong item each mean, and above all know that a discrepancy is noted on the delivery receipt before you sign it, not discovered later.
Finally, give real time to the two topics that look soft and are not: information systems, and communication and teamwork. The systems questions are not about any particular software but about the discipline of keeping a system of record true — why a physical move must be transacted promptly and accurately, what breaks downstream when a quantity or a location is keyed wrong, why a scan verifies identity rather than merely recording it, and what the correct behavior is when the system is down and you must fall back to a documented manual procedure and reconcile afterward. The communication questions reward the same instinct: escalate rather than guess, record what you observed rather than what you concluded, confirm understanding on a noisy floor, and hand off a shift completely enough that the next crew is not left to rediscover a problem. Both topics come down to a single idea that runs through the whole credential — the physical work and the record of it have to stay in agreement, and a worker who quietly corrects a discrepancy without documenting it has created a bigger problem than the one they solved. Practice each topic in short timed sets, review every explanation rather than just your score, and use the flashcards for the vocabulary, which is the part that most often costs a mark when it is read in a second language under time pressure.

What is the difference between the CLA and the CLT?
They are two levels of the same path rather than two unrelated exams. The Certified Logistics Associate is the foundational level: it covers the knowledge that applies anywhere in a logistics operation — how the supply chain fits together, working safely, using material handling equipment, quality, communication and teamwork, and the computer systems that direct the work. The Certified Logistics Technician is the mid-level technical credential built on that foundation, and it is where the specific job tasks live: receiving product, putting it away, controlling inventory, picking and processing orders, packaging and shipping, handling hazardous materials safely, comparing transportation modes, and dispatching and tracking a shipment. MSSC positions the associate certificate as the entry point and the technician credential as the step up from it, so most candidates work through them in that order. Do I need a degree or previous experience?
No degree is required, and that is the point of the credential. These certifications were built for front-line workers, from entry level up to front-line supervisor, and they are earned by passing an assessment rather than by completing a given number of classroom hours. That makes them one of the few realistic ways to prove logistics competence to an employer without a college background. MSSC does recommend that candidates be comfortable reading and doing arithmetic at a solid secondary-school level, because the assessments involve reading work instructions and documents and doing practical calculations such as converting units and working out how many cases fit on a pallet. If you have been working in a warehouse, much of the material will already be familiar and the value of studying is learning the vocabulary and the reasoning behind what you already do.
Does this cover forklift certification?
No, and it is worth being clear about why, because the two are often confused. Operating a powered industrial truck requires separate, employer-provided training and evaluation on the specific type of truck and the specific workplace — that is a legal requirement on the employer, and no general certification substitutes for it. What the logistics credentials test is the surrounding knowledge: which class of equipment is appropriate for a task, the duty to inspect equipment before use and take damaged equipment out of service, how load weight and height affect stability, and how pedestrians and powered equipment are kept apart. That knowledge makes you a better and safer operator, but it is not the operator authorization itself. The credential maps onto the whole front line of a distribution operation: receiving clerk, put-away and stocking associate, order picker and packer, shipping clerk, inventory or cycle-count clerk, returns processor, dock worker, and material handler. Employers who use these standards to hire treat the certificate as evidence that a candidate already understands the vocabulary, the safety expectations and the documentation discipline, which is most of what a new hire normally has to be taught on the floor.
How should I use these practice questions?
Work one topic at a time rather than shuffling everything together, because the eight topics here test genuinely different skills and your weak spot is usually concentrated in one or two of them. Start with the supply chain and logistics environment set even if it looks like background reading, since the vocabulary it establishes is what the other sets assume. Do the quality and measurement set with paper and a calculator and actually work the conversions and the pallet arithmetic, because that is the one topic you cannot pass by recognition alone. Read the explanation on every question you answer, not only the ones you get wrong — the explanations are where the reasoning lives, and a lucky guess you do not examine is a gap you will meet again on the real assessment.
